Wingfoil & Parawing in Icaraizinho: Learn, Ride and Discover Brazil

There are places where watersports feel like an activity.
And then there are places where they become part of everyday life.
Icaraizinho de Amontada, on the coast of Ceará in northeastern Brazil, is one of those places.
Warm water, long beaches, steady trade winds and a relaxed coastal atmosphere have made this small Brazilian village a favourite among riders looking for something beyond the traditional holiday.
For Modo Experto School, Icaraizinho has become a second base — a place where riders can learn wingfoil, discover parawing, explore the coastline and experience the Brazilian ocean lifestyle from the water.
Wingfoil in Icaraizinho
Wingfoil is one of the most exciting ways to experience the ocean.
With a wing in your hands and a foil underneath your board, you are lifted above the water and begin to glide almost silently.
The sensation is different from kitesurfing or traditional windsurfing. There is less equipment around you, more freedom of movement and, once the foil starts flying, a completely different relationship with the water.
Icaraizinho provides a beautiful environment to learn and progress.
The combination of warm water, consistent wind and long stretches of coastline creates different possibilities depending on your level and the conditions of the day.
And that’s an important part of learning here: you don’t simply follow a fixed lesson plan. You learn to understand the wind, the water and the spot.
Wingfoil lessons in Icaraizinho
At Modo Experto School, the idea is simple: our instructors accompany you throughout the entire process of your wingfoil lessons.
From your first contact with the equipment to your first successful flights on the foil, the goal is not simply to teach you a sequence of movements.
It’s about helping you understand the sport.
Our instructors work with you step by step, adapting the session to your level, the conditions and your progression.
For beginners, that means building confidence with the wing, learning how to control the board and understanding how the foil works.
For riders with previous experience, sessions can focus on improving technique, refining manoeuvres, becoming more independent or simply discovering new conditions around Icaraizinho.
Every rider has a different starting point.
That’s why we believe good instruction should feel personal.
Learning with the wind, not against it
One of the great things about Icaraizinho is that the wind is part of everyday life.
Along the Ceará coast, the main windy period generally runs from around July to January, with Modo Experto’s Icaraizinho operation offering wingfoil experiences from August through January.
During this period, the Brazilian coast becomes a playground for wind and watersports.
And the experience is not only about strong wind.
Depending on the location and the day, riders can encounter different types of water and conditions, from flatter sections to waves and open-ocean riding.
That variety is part of what makes travelling with your foil equipment so rewarding.
What is the water temperature in Icaraizinho?
One of the things riders notice immediately is how warm the ocean feels.
In Icaraizinho, water temperatures are typically around 28–30°C, meaning that, for many riders, a wetsuit is unnecessary.
You can spend long hours on the water without the feeling of cold that comes with many European watersports destinations.
Warm water, tropical temperatures and the constant presence of the wind create a very different riding environment.
It is easy to understand why people arrive for a few weeks and start thinking about staying longer.
Parawing: another way to explore the coast
Parawing brings another dimension to the experience.
The equipment is compact, lightweight and designed to capture the wind while allowing riders to explore the coastline in a completely different way.
For experienced riders, parawing can become a fascinating way of connecting different parts of the coast and discovering areas that are difficult to experience from land.
At Modo Experto, these experiences can also be combined with assisted downwinds, where the focus is not only on riding but on exploration, safety and discovering the Brazilian coastline with local knowledge and support.
The idea is simple:
Ride. Explore. Discover.
And then let the coastline become part of the adventure.
More than a lesson: your instructors stay with you
Learning a new watersport can be exciting — but it can also feel overwhelming at the beginning.
There is new equipment, new terminology, new movements and, in the case of foiling, a completely new feeling underneath your feet.
That’s why the relationship with the instructor matters.
At Modo Experto, our instructors accompany riders throughout the process, helping them understand each stage and adapting the experience to their progression.
It’s not about rushing to the next trick.
It’s about building confidence until the moment when everything suddenly starts to connect.
And then you feel it.
The board lifts.
The foil flies.
The water becomes quiet.
And you’re riding.
Icaraizinho: much more than a watersports destination
Away from the water, Icaraizinho has its own rhythm.
The village is relaxed, surrounded by coconut palms, sand and the Atlantic Ocean. There are restaurants, beach bars, pousadas and hotels, but it still retains a more laid-back atmosphere than many of Brazil’s larger coastal destinations.
Accommodation ranges from smaller pousadas to beachfront hotels, villas and condo-hotels.
There are also properties located directly by the beach, allowing riders to wake up, check the wind and be on the water within minutes.
For example, beachfront properties such as Club de Mar are positioned directly overlooking the kite and windsurf spots and offer apartments, houses and villas by the sea.
There are also many other beachfront accommodation options around Icaraizinho, from smaller pousadas to larger properties.
For a watersports trip, that proximity makes a real difference.
You wake up.
Have breakfast.
Check the wind.
Walk to the beach.
And start the day.
How to get to Icaraizinho from Fortaleza
For most international visitors, the journey begins at Fortaleza International Airport.
Icaraizinho is approximately 180–200 km from Fortaleza, depending on the exact destination, and the journey by road generally takes around three hours.
The easiest option for riders travelling with equipment is a private transfer directly from the airport.
At Modo Experto, we can help organise the transfer from Fortaleza Airport to Icaraizinho, so your journey is taken care of from the moment you arrive in Brazil.
No complicated connections.
No need to figure everything out after a long flight.
Just arrive, meet your driver and start heading towards the coast.
And somewhere along the way, the landscape changes.
The city disappears.
The roads become quieter.
The palms begin to appear.
And you know you’re getting close.
Why stay directly on the beach?
For a normal beach holiday, staying a few streets away from the ocean might not make much difference.
For a watersports trip, it can.
Being close to the beach means you can follow the wind throughout the day without worrying about transport, equipment or logistics.
Some beachfront hotels and condo-hotels in Icaraizinho are located directly beside the riding areas, with properties offering sea views and easy access to the water.
It’s the kind of place where your board can be ready before breakfast.
And your last session of the day can finish just before sunset.
A different way to experience Brazil
For us, wingfoil and parawing are not only about learning another watersport.
They’re a way of experiencing a place.
You see the coastline differently from the water.
You meet people you probably wouldn’t meet on a traditional holiday.
You spend your mornings following the wind and your evenings watching the sun disappear over the ocean.
And somewhere between one session and the next, Icaraizinho stops feeling like a destination.
It starts feeling like home.
